The vibrant colors of fall were upon us as we made our way north to visit a man that built the leisure community of Nottawasaga Inn & Resort from a dream. Lou Biffis is a big man, a big thinker and a big giver. His philanthropic contributions to the community are many and include founding the Nottawasaga Foundation, a charitable organization which has raised millions of dollars to date for charitable causes. Born in Pero, in Breda di Piave, Treviso , he arrived to the land of opportunity with a few dollars in his pocket and an abundance of aspiration, starting out as a humble carpenter. He purchased the plot of land, originally a farm, that the hotel now resides on in 1959 and the hotel welcomed its first guests as a 40 room motel in October 1968. As I shook his large hand, I felt the sincerity of a proud man who quickly opened his doors and his heart to us. “I have something very special to show you” he said. We entered a quaint chapel with wooden benches, a statue of the Madonna and a history of a tale written on the green cavern walls. He began to explain the reason for this small temple of calling. As his spiritual words continued to flow, I took a deep breath and felt my soul and inner thoughts being cleansed by association.
